Open Question: Is this normal? Painkillers and sex?

My b/f has a bad back and takes pain killers (by prescription, sees doc regularly, yes we know the risk of addiction).
Anyway, he is able to have and keep an erection but is rarely able to come during sex. I am wondering if this is a common side effect for men.
