Open Question: Guys only: Erection issue during a physical exam?

I have an appointment to see a doctor (who happens to be male) to get a physical exam so that I can get referred to a neurologist for my epilepsy. I haven’t seen a doctor in quite a few years. Most of the potential exam doesn’t scare me too much, but what does is the testicular exam.

I’m straight but the last time I had to get that type of exam done (again by male doctor), I got an erection. I felt really embarrassed and sickened by it but I couldn’t stop it. Again, I’m straight, not gay, hence the problem with it. I’m afraid it might happen again but I don’t want that type of embarrassment again.

How normal is this? Is there anyway to prevent it from happening this time? Any suggestions?
